We Stand in Solidarity

The Institute for Change Leaders stands in solidarity with the millions of activists, organizers, and protestors fighting for racial justice and an end to police violence against Black communities across North America.

We share the outrage over the senseless deaths of Tony McDade, Regis Korchinski-Paquet, D’Andre Campbell, Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery and too many other victims of systemic anti-Black racism and white supremacy.

Theirs follow the deaths of Micheal Eligon (2012), Treyvon Martin (2012), Martin Brown (2014), Eric Garner (2014), Andrew Loku (2015), Sandra Bland (2015), Philando Castile (2016) and Colten Boushie (2016). Be it in the United States or Canada, each was one of a countless number of victims to this continent’s foundational history of racial bias, prejudice and persecution. The consequences of these injustices are clear; from the agony of loved ones to the rage of protestors to the grief of those in-between. These feelings demand action: that we recognize the past, make changes for the future, and build institutions that champion equity, inclusion and justice.

As such, the Institute for Change Leaders is committed, with renewed practice, to training those eager to change this country and its systems for the better. We are committed to being active allies for Black and Indigenous peoples and are thoroughly opposed to anti-Black/anti-Indigenous racism in its manifestations large and small.

Our mission at ICL is to empower ordinary people to work together to achieve racial, economic and social justice and build movements for collective liberation. We are committed to the work of combatting and dismantling the system of white supremacy within this country and in our communities.

Great change can and has happened from the advocacy of Black and Indigenous People of Colour within our lifetime. We will continue to support these movements to ensure that BIPOC lives are recognized, within hearts and minds and our institutions, with the inherent value given to all others. Anything less might only prove as fatal as it was weeks, months and decades before.
